SEASIDE, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team fell to Cal State Monterey on Saturday night 3-0 in a CCAA contest. The Seawolves moved to 7-6 in the conference with the loss and sit in sixth place, half a game ahead of Stanislaus State.
SSU struggled from the start, falling behind early to the Otters. The Seawolves found themselves down 11-4 and saw CSUMB extend their lead to as many as 14 in a 25-11 defeat. Sonoma scored the first four points of the second set with a pair of kills from
Kiana Richardson but their lead would be short lived. The Otters answered back with an 11-4 run to overtake the Seawolves and never looked back, winning 25-16.
The third set saw Sonoma lead until the halfway point with a 13-11 advantage. Cal State Monterey Bay ripped off six of the next seven points to go ahead 17-14 and eventually closed out the match with a 25-18 victory.
Richardson led the way with a match high 11 kills while
Jenn Trephan added a match best 23 assists and 10 digs.
The Seawolves are back in action next Friday with a key match against Stanislaus State in Turlock.
