ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – For the second time in four days the Sonoma State women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory. The Seawolves used three second half goals and a stifling defense to roll pas Dominican and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Sonoma State controlled the pace from the start, nearly getting on the board in opening minutes with a shot that just missed wide left. The Seawolves got on the board in the 25
th minute when freshman
Renee Ketner scored for the second time in as many games. Ketner controlled a failed clear attempt at the top of the box and sent a low shot inside the left post for the goal.
The game went to the break with the score 1-0 as Sonoma State held a 10-0 shot advantage in the half and did allow Dominican any breathing room.
The second half was all Seawolves again as the ball stayed primarily in the attacking half throughout the period. In the 63
rd minute they would strike again with a goal from
Molly Murphy. Murphy fielded a pass from
Andrea Lozano on the left side of the box, found some space and slipped the shot around the goalie and inside the left post.
Just over a minute later Lozano would get on the board herself with a shot from the top of the box that curved, hit off the post and into the back of the net.
Julia Pritchard recorded the assist on the goal for her first point of the season.
The final tally would come in the 80
th minute with freshman
Lillian Terc scoring her first career goal.
Alexis Espitia and
Chiara Rigatuso combined on the double assist on Terc's goal to each pick up their first points.
The Seawolves limited Dominican to just one shot for the entire 90 minute of action while totaling 24 of their own. Nine of the 24 shots were on target. Goalie
Phoebe Barnes picked up her second straight shutout to open her career and now has 180 scoreless minutes in net.
Five of Sonoma's eight goals on the season have come from the freshman class including two apiece from Ketner and Lozano. Murphy leads the team with six points on two goals and two assists.
The Seawolves are back in action next week with a pair of games in the Pacific Northwest. The trip opens with a contest against Western Oregon and ends next Sunday with a big time matchup with Western Washington.
