WSOC: #5 Seawolves Hold Off WOU In Road Win

MONMOUTH, OREG. - After a pair of 4-0 victories last week against Fresno Pacific and in their home opener against Dominican University, the Seawolves hit the road this weekend for a test against GNAC member Western Oregon University. Emiria Salzmann and her group looked to improve to 3-0 on the season after being ranked 5th in the country in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll.

The Seawolves wasted no time in this one as reigning CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Molly Murphy, turned a defender on the right end line where she then cut back inside on the corner of the six yard box and snuck in the left footed shot near post past the keeper! With her solo goal against Western Oregon, Murphy now leads the Seawolves in goals and assists after three matches.

The Seawolves would tally 12 shots in the first half alone. Midfielder Lexi Zandonella-Arasa would lead SSU with 5 shots in the contest.

Despite the game remaining scoreless after the opening goal for the better part of half an hour, the Seawolves would strike again on a penalty kick converted by Julia Pritchard in the 34th minute. That would be Pritchard's first goal of the season for the Seawolves. SSU would finish the game in dominant fashion with 20 total shots and almost half on frame.

Freshman goalkeeper Phoebe Barnes would record her third win in goal for the Seawolves and tally two saves in the contest. The backline for SSU has been a crucial component in their first three games as they have yet to allow a goal and have only forced Barnes to make 5 saves in her three games. The Seawolves return to action on Sunday, September 12th where they will battle it out with the 2019 GNAC Champions in Western Washington.
