HAYWARD, CALIF. - On Saturday, September 30th, the Sonoma State men's soccer team resumed CCAA competition against bay area opponent Cal State East Bay. The Seawolves have been on the favorable end of this series for the better part of the last decade as they have gone 7-0 against the Pioneers dating back to the 2014 season. However, Cal State East Bay would get the better of the Seawolves last night with a 2-0 victory, scoring a goal in each half to seal the win.
After a lackluster two-shot first half, the Seawolves would energize the game with a 10-shot performance in the second half to give the Pioneers a run for their money. East Bay would grab goals in the 34th and 70th minute to record their two-goal victory.
Junior center back
Matt Walleigh anchored the Seawolves back line with his 9th 90-minute game this season. Walleigh currently leads the team with 893 minutes of action. Freshman defender
Elliot Stanley continues to make his impact felt as he recorded his 4th start of the season and played all 90 minutes for SSU last night. Freshman winger
Patrick Neill proved to be the most dangerous player for the Seawolves last night as he finished with a team and career high 6 shots and 2 on target in his 90 minutes of action. The freshman out of Mater Dei HS made his 8th start of the season and is tied for second on the team with two goals. Senior captain
Sean Rohane added two shots on goal as well in his 63 minutes of action.
Sonoma State falls to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
