WSOC: Seawolves Move into First Place with 2-1 Victory over Cal State San Bernardino

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer scored the first two goals of the game and held off Cal State San Bernardino in a 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon.  The Seawolves moved into sole possession of first place in the CCAA with a 6-2-1 conference record while moving to 10-3-1 overall.

SSU got on the board early, scoring in the 9th minute on a goal by Lexi Zandonella-ArasaJulia Pritchard got it started by running down a clear off a corner and playing the ball back into the box.  Grace Ingalls flicked the ball past a defender to the feet of Zandonella-Arasa.  She then touched it down and sent the left-footed shot inside the far post for her CCAA leading 12th score of the season.

The Seawolves recorded ten shots in the first 45 while limiting the visitors to four.  Kennedy Williams made two stops in net for the Seawolves to keep the Coyotes off the board.  CSUSB put the pressure on to start the second half, taking four of the first five shots but not putting on frame.  In the 64th minute Sonoma State netted an insurance goal that would prove to be huge.  Zandonella-Arasa was once again involved, playing a though ball to Macy Max down the center. Max slid the shot under the goalie and just inside the near post for her first career goal and a 2-0 lead.

The Coyotes cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute with a goal from Nathaly Losada Lucumi off a service to the center of the box.  The Seawolves defense did the rest from there, limiting CSUSB to just two errant shots over the final 15 minutes to preserve the win.

Both teams finished with 14 shots with the Seawolves putting six on frame to just three from the Coyotes.  Zandonella-Arasa added to her CCAA leading totals in goals (12), assists (8) and points (32) with a one goal, one assist performance.

Sonoma State is back in action on Sunday when they host Cal State San Marcos at 2:00 pm at Seawolf Soccer Field.
