WSOC: Seawolves Play to a Scoreless Tie with Cal State San Marcos

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer team earned a very important point on Sunday afternoon with a 0-0 tie against Cal State San Marcos.  The tie puts the Seawolves in the position to clinch their third straight CCAA title with a win in Thursday's final regular season contest.

The game was a battle from the start with neither team gaining much offensive traction in the first half.  The two teams combined for just five total shots in the opening period, three from SSU and two from San Marcos.  Grace Ingalls took two of those shots but both were saved by the Cougar's goalkeeper.

Kennedy Williams meanwhile made one stop in net for the Seawolves while the defense cut down on any opportunities for the Cougars.  Sonoma State controlled the second half from the start, applying a lot of pressure in the attacking third but unable to break through.  In total, the Seawolves took 12 shots in the second, six from Lexi Zandonella-Arasa.  Zandonella-Arasa's provided the best chance in the 78th minute with a shot from 35 yards out that just went over the crossbar.  The SSU defense yielded just one shot to CSUSM in the final 45 as the game ended 0-0.

Sonoma State moved to 10-3-3 overall on the season and 6-2-2 in conference play.  They currently sit atop the CCAA standings with 20 points, tied with Stanislaus State.  The Seawolves own the tie breaker courtesy of a 4-2 victory over the Warriors earlier this month.

Sonoma State will host San Francisco State on Thursday for an 11:30 am kick-off.  The Seawolves will honor their four seniors prior to the start of the game with a ceremony for Julia Pritchard, Krissy Keller, Mckenna Mcadoo and Julia Horner-Bell
