WSOC: Seawolves Hit Woodwork Twice in Draw with Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's soccer team played to a tough luck scoreless draw with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday evening, hitting the frame of the goal twice.  The Seawolves and Toros playing in the Dignity Health Sports Park earned the draw with SSU holding a 12-7 shot advantage.

Sonoma State had a couple chances early on with Malia Falk's shot from inside the box hitting the crossbar and coming down on the line in the 5th minute.  The ball bounced out and was cleared by CSUDH to keep it scoreless.  Several minutes later Falk laid a pass off to Lexi Zandonella-Arasa whose left-footed attempted by stopped by the goalie.

Later in the half Grace Ingalls found herself behind the defense only to see her shot get past the goalie but clang off the far post.

The Seawolves best chance in the second half came late in the game but once again goalie Alyssa Newsome came up with a big stop on Zandonella-Arasa to keep the game at 0-0.

Phoebe Barnes and Kennedy Williams combined for the shutout in net for the Seawolves with four total saves.

Zandonella-Arasa's goal scoring streak came to end at six games, tying a CCAA record for most consecutive games with at least one goal.  The Seawolves moved to 7-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in CCAA play and have a big match at home on Sunday against Cal State Monterey Bay.

Sonoma State will be retiring Courtney Shoda's number before the game on Sunday with a ceremony right before the 2:00 pm kick-off.
