ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Saturday, March 26th, the Sonoma State baseball team played in games two and three of their four game series with Cal Poly Pomona. After a shutout loss in game 1, the Seawolves would bounce back behind the complete game performance of freshman pitcher
Jason Doktorczyk and take down the Broncos 7-1 to get their first win of the series. Sophomore outfielder
Braeden Holliday clobbered his team high 6th home run in the teams 7-1 victory as he sent a 3-run shot deep over the left field fence to give SSU a commanding 6-1 lead in the 3rd inning.

1ST INNING:
Freshman
Jared Esparza got the nod in game one of today's doubleheader as he made his 5th appearance and 2nd start of the season. A hit by pitch to lead off the game and then a 1-out walk two batters later would send head coach
John Goelz to the mound for a quick and early visit. After getting the next Broncos hitter to fly out to right, Esparza would lose some control and hit the next batter to load the bases with two outs. The Pomona batter would work a full count and with the runners taking off on the pitch, the lefty batter would slap a single to left field that would plate two and force Esparza out of the game in the first inning. Right hander
Ross Goldschlag would come in and make his 5th appearance of the season looking to end the threat. A passed ball would score the runner from third to give the Broncos an early 3-0 lead, but Goldschlag would get the next batter out on strikes to end the threat.
3RD INNING:
The 3rd inning would prove to be the dagger for the Seawolves as they would surrender a 7-spot and Goldschlag would be chased from the game to make way for
Aidan Dolan. Back-to-back RBI singles would plate two more runs for the Broncos and extend their lead to 5-0. Big right hander
Aidan Dolan would make his 5th appearance for Sonoma State but he would give up a single followed by a grand slam to Cal Poly Pomona's Casey Slattery. Slattery was able to accomplish quite a feat on the weekend as he hit a grand slam in yesterday's game in the 11th inning to give Pomona the convincing win in extra innings. The 4-run shot to right field would give CPP a commanding 9-0 lead. Catcher Johnny Pappas would tack on a solo shot to left two batters later to make it 10-0. Dolan would finish the 3rd and pitch his way into the 5th before departing for sophomore pitcher
Colton Peters.
Despite the blowout victory for the Broncos,
Colton Peters was a pleasant bright spot for SSU as he entered the game midway through the 5th inning and would go on to finish the game for the Seawolves with 4.2 scoreless innings. His 4.2 innings of work would go down as his new season high as well as his 5 strikeouts on the day, which also tied the game high between both teams. Peters was effective at changing the eye level for the Pomona hitters and keeping them off balanced. He would allow just 4 hits and finished with 69 pitches on the day. Peters currently leads all releivers on the team with a 1.54 ERA. Catcher
Cole Brodnansky took a break from behind the dish in game 1 but went 2-3 from the plate as the team's designated hitter. He would be the team's lone multi-hit performer in the game.
DH #2: CPP (1) vs. SSU (7):
3RD INNING:
Game 2 on the day would certainly tell a different story for Sonoma State as the Seawolves had a big inning of their own in the 3rd to take control of this one and never look back. Freshman stud
Jason Doktorczyk would get his 4th start and make his 7th appearance of his 2022 campaign. After allowing just 1 hit through 2 innings, Doktorczyk would give up a 2-out ground rule double that hopped over the left field fence. A single through the right side the very next batter would make for a play at the plate. Right fielder
Braeden Holliday would come up firing but an in-between hop at the plate would prove too much to handle for catcher
Niko Tejada as the Pomona runner would slide in safely for the game's first run. Doktorczyk would get the next batter to fly out to end the inning and limit the damage to just 1 run.
The bats would finally get going for SSU after combing for just 5 hits in their first two games. A 1-out infield single from speedster
Desmond Gates would put runners on first and second for outfielder
Torreahno Sweet. Sweet would clutch up and record 2 of his 3 RBI's on the season with a hard hit ball just inside the third base line.
Logan Douglas would score easily from 2nd and Gates would get waived around all the way from 1st and help give SSU a 2-1 lead. Veteran utility player
Joshua Medina would come up at the right time as he lazered a ball back up the middle to score Sweet from second and extend Sonoma State's lead.
Senior infielder
Josh Lopez would get plunked in the shoulder to set the stage for power hitter
Braeden Holliday. It would take Holliday just three pitches to send a ball deep into the afternoon sky, the no doubter 3-run shot to left would ignite the crowd and give SSU a commanding 6-1 lead. Holliday's 3-run shot would go down as his team leading 6th of the season. Starting pitcher
Jason Doktorczyk would continue to fill it up as he entered the 4th inning with a complete game in his sights.
4TH INNING:
After a pitching change for the Broncos,
Desmond Gates would provide another spark to leadoff the 4th with a flared triple down the left field line.
Joshua Medina would come up big once again with a nice insurance run after he hit a deep sac fly to center field to score Gates. A ground out from Holliday with a runner on would end the inning but give SSU a comfortable 7-1 lead heading into the 5th.
7TH INNING:
Doktorczyk would work around a leadoff single in the 6th as he induced a 4-6-3 double play the very next batter to clear the bases.
Niko Tejada would jump on a slow chopper just in front of the plate and make the nice play to throw out the runner and end the inning. Doktorczyk's 3rd walk of the game would not come at an ideal time as he walked the leadoff batter to start the 7th. After a brief mound visit from head coach
John Goelz, Doktorczyk would remain in the game and get back-to-back fly outs to put two away. A hit batter the very next at-bat to put 2 on with 2 outs would tempt Goelz to go to the bullpen but as Doktorczyk signaled to Goelz he wanted one more batter, he would let him face Johnny Pappas to try and close out the game. Two pitches later, Doktorczyk would induce a high chopper to Douglas over at third who field it cleanly and make the throw on the run to end the game and give the freshman his first career complete game!
Doktorczyk would pick up his team leading 4th win of the season and finish with a season high 7 innings pitched. This would be his third time recording 6 innings pitched or more this season. Doktorczyk would give up just 5 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and record 3 strikeouts on 95 pitches to secure the win. Gates and Sweet were the dynamic duo for the Seawolves at the top of the lineup as each of them combined for 4 hits, 2 RBI's, and 3 runs scored.
Joshua Medina added to his RBI total as he picked up two more with his RBI single in the 3rd and his sac fly in the 4th.
