SB: Seawolves Make it Eight Straight with Sweep of Cal State San Bernardino

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State pitchers Jesse Dupuis, Nichole Sarra and Camille Rodriguez combined to completely shutdown Cal State San Bernardino, combining to allow just six hits and one unearned run in a two-game sweep on Saturday.  The Seawolves extended their winning streak to eight with a 2-1 walk-off win in game one and a 2-0 shutout in the second game.

Dupuis drew the start in the opener and cruised through the first two innings in order, not allowing a single baserunner.  In the third, the Coyotes got a run on a sacrifice fly after an error extended the inning and loaded the bases.  The Seawolves did not trail for long, evening the game in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own.  After two quick outs, Jordyn Martinez ripped a triple off the right field wall.  Giana Hays followed with a single to left to score SSU's first run and tie the game at 1-1.

After a perfect fourth Dupuis was relieved by Sarra who did her job on the rubber over the next three innings.  Sarra allowed just one hit in three innings of work and got the game to the bottom of the seventh still tied at 1-1.  The Seawolves would put together a two-out rally in the seventh to put the game away.  Rylee Nishimoto single to keep hope alive and moved to third on an infield hit by Anna Zoia-BuescherCassidy Romano then put a ball in play down the right field line that was dropped by the second baseman and allowed Nishimoto to cross for the walk-off victory.

Sarra earned the victory with her scoreless three innings while Dupuis allowed just two hits and an unearned run in her four frames.  Zoia-Buescher and Martinez finished with two hits apiece to leads the offense.

The second game featured another gem from Rodriguez, following up her four-hit shutout yesterday with a three-hit shutout today.  She struck out three while extender her scoreless inning streak to 18 and improve to 10-4 on the season.

With Rodriguez in control on the mount the Seawolves manufactured their two runs which proved to me more than enough.  The first run came in the second inning when Skylar Linnane single, Reagan Hunt was hit by a pitch and Nishimoto singled to load the bases.  Zoia-Buescher followed with a fielders' choice to score pinch runner Natasha Ochoa for the game's first run.

Sonoma State added an insurance run in the fifth with another two-out rally.  Martinez got it started with a single and Hays drew a walk.  After an error on a pick-off attempt moved Martinez to third, Courtney Jack followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

That was more than enough for Rodriguez who cruised through the sixth and then worked her way out of trouble in the seventh to get the final two outs and seal the win.

Jack finished with two hits to pace the offense while Zoia-Buescher added a single to extend her hitting streak to 16 games.

The Seawolves now stand at 22-13 on the season and have won 11 of their last 12 games.  They moved to 14-10 on the season and are tied for third place in the CCAA with Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Sonoma State heads to the Tournament of Champions next week for a five game tournament in Turlock.
