SB: Rodriguez and Dupuis Shutdown Stanislaus State in Sweep

TURLOCK, Calif. – Camille Rodriguez and Jesse Dupuis combined to throw 13 scoreless innings in a pair of shutouts for the Sonoma State softball team.  The Seawolves continued their hot play, winning 8-0 in the opener and 2-0 in the nightcap to move to 28-14 overall and 16-10 in CCAA play.

Rodriguez continued her torrid run on the rubber for the Seawolves, hurling a complete game one-hit shutout to move to 13-4 on the season.

Offensively, SSU wasted no time jumping out to a lead with a four-run first inning.  Anna Zoia-Buescher led off and reached on catcher's interference and Rylee Nishimoto joined her on an error.  After a double steal, Jordyn Martinez singled up to the middle to score both and make it 2-0.  Giana Hays then ripped a double off the right field wall to score another but was thrown out going for third.  Cassidy Romano kept the inning going with a single and came all the way around on a double by Courtney Jack.

Hays struck again to lead off the third with a single and moved to third on a single by Linnane.  Natasha Ochoa came in to pinch run and pulled off a double steal with Hays taking home to make it 5-0.  Jack then added another RBI with a single to score Ochoa.

Rodriguez meanwhile cruised through the opening innings retiring the first 11 batters she faced.  After allowing her only hit of the game in the fourth inning she struck out the final batter to keep her shutout alive.

Sonoma State added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to bring the advantage to 8-0.  Hays opened the fifth with a lead-off homerun, her third hit of the game and fourth longball of the season.  In the sixth, Reagan Hunt doubled, stole third and then scored on an RBI groundout by Lauren Mirtoni

Rodriguez did the rest, retiring the side in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.  She picked up her eighth straight win and has allowed just five runs in her last nine starts.

Hays paced the offense with three hits, two RBIs, a double and a homerun.  Jack, Romano and Linnane added two hits apiece with Jack driving in a pair.  The Seawolves 4-7 hitters finished the game 9 for 12 overall.

Dupuis continued the Seawolves stellar pitching in the nightcap, allowing just four hits in her second straight complete game shutout.  Dupuis struck out two and has now allowed just six hits in her last 14 innings of work.

The Seawolves offense generated a pair of runs which proved to be more than enough for Dupuis.  The first came in the third inning when Briana Avalos led off by reaching on an error.  She was advanced over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hunt and then moved to third on a single by Zoia-Buescher.  Nishimoto followed with a fly ball to center that scored Avalos for the game's first run.

Dupuis continued to move through the Warriors offense, retiring seven straight at one point as the game went into the seventh still at 1-0.  In the top half of the inning Sonoma State added an insurance run with Avalos and Zoia-Buescher causing havoc again.  Avalos started the rally with a double to right center and later moved to third.  Zoia-Buescher then delivered the big two-out hit to score Avalos and make it 2-0.
The Seawolves ended the game in the bottom half of the frame with a double play by Romano, snaring a line drive and firing to first base to catch the runner before she could get back.

Zoia-Buescher finished with three of the six Seawolves hits in the game with Nishimoto adding two.  Avalos picked up the sixth hit and scored both runs.

Sonoma State is now 17-2 in their last 19 games including a 13-1 mark in CCAA play.  These two teams will meet again tomorrow for another doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm.  Live stream is available at ccaanetwork.com.
