SB: Seawolves Complete Series Sweep of Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Sonoma State softball team closed out their series with Stanislaus State with their second straight doubleheader sweep.  The Seawolves came-from-behind in both games, taking the first one 4-3 before finishing the sweep with a 5-2 win.  SSU tallied their 30th win of the season and are now 18-10 in CCAA play after their 12th straight conference victory.
 
The Seawolves started hot for the second straight day, opening the first game with runs in the top of the first inning.  Anna Zoia-Buescher led off with a walk and stole second before Rylee Nishimoto also walked and proceeded to steal second.  With two runners in scoring position Jordyn Martinez laid down a squeeze bunt to score Zoia-Buescher for the game's first run.  Giana Hays followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Nishimoto in and make it 2-0. 
 
Stanislaus State got to starter Camille Rodriguez in the bottom of the inning, putting together a three inning after starting the game with back-to-back triples.  They later added a two-run single with the bases loaded to take their first lead of the series. 
 
In the bottom of the second Nichole Sarra came on in relief and shut the Warriors out from there.  The game stayed at 3-2 into the fourth inning when the Seawolves offense got going again.  Courtney Jack tied the game with a solo blast to left center.  Next batter Briana Avalos doubled to right and would come into score on a double down the line by Reagan Hunt
 
Sarra retired the Warriors in order in the fourth and faced a bases loaded situation in the fifth.  She got the final out of the fifth with a strikeout to end the threat.  Sarra then worked her way out of the sixth unscathed and hurled a perfect seventh inning to pick up her third win of the season. 
 
Hays finished with a team high two hits and added an RBI while Jack record her third homerun of the season. 
 
The Seawolves scored first in the finale as well, plating a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Avalos.  Skylar Linnane scored after reaching earlier on a double to left.  On the rubber Bailee Reed for the start for Sonoma State and surrendered two runs – one earned – in the bottom of the second as the Seawolves found themselves down 2-1. 
 
The Warriors lead lasted until the fourth when SSU broke the game open with a four-run inning.  Linnane singled and was replaced by pinch runner Amari Houston who then stole second.  Cassidy Romano followed with a triple, her conference leading eighth of the season to score Houston and tie the game.  Romano would then score on a squeeze bunt by Avalos to give the Seawolves the lead.  Hunt kept the rally going with a single and Zoia-Buescher drove in the next run when she reached on an error.  The final Sonoma run came in when Zoia-Buescher and Hunt completed a double steal with Hunt taking home. 
 
Meanwhile Reed pitching into the fifth, getting the first out before being relieved by Jesse Dupuis.  Dupuis got the final two outs of the inning to end the threat and send the game to the sixth.  She them cruised through the sixth and seventh without allowing a hit and picked up her second save with 2.2 innings of scoreless work.  Dupuis extender her scoreless inning streak to 16.2 innings and has allowed just six total hits during that span. 
 
Linnane led the way offensively with two hits while Avalos drove in a team high two runs.  The Seawolves improved to 19-2 in their last 21 games and reached the 30-win mark on the season.  They have won 15 of their last 16 CCAA games including their last twelve on three straight series sweeps. 
 
Sonoma State is off next week before returning to action on April 22nd when they host Cal State East Bay for the final homestand of the season.
