VB: Seawolves Fall to Cal State San Bernardino in Four

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball team dropped a tough CCAA road match on Friday night, losing to Cal State San Bernardino 3-1.  The Seawolves moved to 8-3 on the season with another conference match tomorrow.

Sonoma State came out strong, taking the opening set 25-23 with a strong 15-kill performance.  The Seawolves jumped out to an 8-2 advantage behind a pair of kills and a pair of aces from Kiana Richardson.  The Coyotes responded to take the lead later in the set at 18-16 before SSU ripped off a five-point run to pull back ahead.  Brooklyn Jackson and Jaden Krist each recorded a kill during the run.  The match remained tight with Sonoma State leading 23-22 before Richardson notched the final two points with a pair of kills.

The Seawolves got off to a fast start once again in the second leading 7-4 but CSUSB responded with a 9-1 run to flip the set.  SSU chipped the deficit down to two at 20-18 but that was as close as they would get.  The Coyotes scored five of the next six to take the second 25-19.

The third set played out in a similar fashion as it remained close throughout with San Bernardino pulling away at the end.  With the score tied at 11-11 the Coyotes went on a 10-5 run and led 21-16 before finishing the set with a 25-19 win.  CSUSB put the match away in the fourth using a six-point run to turn a 7-5 lead into a 13-5 advantage.  They would put it away from there, taking the fourth at 25-16.

The Seawolves held a 48-44 kill advantage for the match and have now outkilled their opponent in all 11 matches of the season.  Richardson led all players with 14 kills and three aces while Jessie Hobbs added nine kills.

SSU is back in action tomorrow afternoon with a match against Cal Poly Pomona at 2:00 pm.
