MSOC: Seawolves Sweep Conference Road Trip with 3-2 Win over SF State, Zarate Nets a Pair

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - On Sunday, October 8th, the Sonoma State men's soccer team gutted out a 3-2 victory over bay area rival San Francisco State to cap off their conference weekend sweep. The Seawolves defeated 15th ranked Monterey Bay on Friday and were able to score a season high three goals on Sunday against the Gators with freshman midfielder Alejandro Zarate netting a pair in the team's victory. In the blink of an eye head coach Marcus Ziemer and his squad have propelled themselves back into the thick of things and have evened out their conference record at 2-2. SSU now sit within just two points of a top four spot in the conference and will have another great chance at an upset when they take on nationally ranked Chico State on Thursday, October 12th.

Against SF State, Zarate had a breakout game scoring his first two goals of his Seawolf career. Fellow midfielder Sean Rohane recorded the assist on both of his goals to earn his first points of the season. Reinier ter Riet was solid in goal once again finishing with four saves and leading the conference with 12 saves on the entire weekend. ter Riet's eight saves in Friday's contest against the Otters went down as the second highest conference total in a game this season.

Second year midfielder Oswaldo Rojas got the scoring started with his first goal of the season in the first half to give the Seawolves the 1-0 lead at the break. A wild four goal second half would go Sonoma State's way as Zarate would net his two header goals to give SSU their fourth win of the season.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Seawolves improve to 4-5-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They will return home for rivalry week and a massive CCAA contest against nationally ranked Chico State on Thursday, October 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM and live stats and ticket links can be found at sonomaseawolves.com.
