WBB: Seawolves Topple Western Oregon, Extend Winning Streak to Three

LACEY, Wash. – The Sonoma State women's basketball turned in another fantastic all-around performance to race past Western Oregon 79-57 and pick up their third straight win.  The Seawolves trailed for just 19 seconds in the contest and used several huge runs to blow this one wide open.

SSU opened the game fast, scoring the first six points with Jayme Blackard sinking a 3-pointer and Madisyn Clark adding a layup.  After the Wolves scored the next seven to take a one point lead the Seawolves answered back with a 14-0 run and never looked back.  Five different Sonoma State players scored during the run with Clark's five leading the way.  Alli McDonald knocked down two triples in the quarter as the Seawolves led 23-10 after the first.

Western Oregon chipped away at the lead in the second pulling within eight before McDonald hit another three to push the margin back to double figures.  Emerson Herrmann hit a jumper in the final minutes of the second to make it an 11-point game but WOU scored the final six of the half and trailed 33-28 at the break.

Sonoma State broke the game wide open in the third with another 14-0 run to turn a six-point lead into a 20-point advantage.  Clark hit a pair of triples in the third with Sienna Cherwinski adding five points of her own.  The margin swelled to as many as 23 with McDonald hitting a lay-up and a 3-pointer to make it 55-32 at the 3:43 mark.

The Wolves managed to pull within 10 in the fourth but the Seawolves would end the comeback attempt there, quickly pushing it back past 20.  Herrmann and McDonald combined for 10 points in a 12-2 fourth quarter run to end all doubt.

The Seawolves shot 44% from the field and committed a season low 10 turnovers.  Their defense limited the Wolves to just 35% shooting while holding a 40-35 rebounding advantage.  Sonoma State saw four players reach double figures for the second straight game.  McDonald once again led the way, this time with 22 points and 8 rebounds while connecting on five triples.  Clark hit 6 of 8 from the field on her way to 17 points with Herrmann tacking on 13 of her own.  Blackard had another great all-around game, adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Seawolves return home on Wednesday for a game against Academy of Art in the Wolves' Den.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm with the live stream available on the CCAA Network.
