WBB: Seawolves Cruise to Fourth Straight Win

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's basketball team continued their stellar start to the season, winning their fourth straight contest with an 80-51 victory over Academy of Art.  The Seawolves led for the final 36 minutes of the game with three 20-point quarters.

After trailing 4-2 early, SSU responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead and never look back.  Madisyn Clark drained a 3-pointer and Sienna Cherwinski netted a pair of baskets during the run to make it 11-4.  Sheriene Arikat later hit a triple of her own while Emerson Herrmann made a layup and then converted an and-1 in the final second to end the quarter with the Seawolves leading 23-8.

Sonoma State caught fire from long range in the second to break the game wide open and lead by as many as 23.  Cherwinski knocked down back-to-back threes before Keara Colombo and Herrmann followed with triples of their own to cap off a 15-4 run.  The Seawolves closed with four straight free-throws to take a 46-26 lead into the break.

Academy of Art made a push in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 11 with a 9-0 run to end the period.  In the fourth, they pulled within 10 multiple times but Sonoma State would always answer with a basket.  After the Urban Knights made it a 10-point game with just over seven mintues remaining the Seawolves closed the door for good.  SSU ripped off a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game away.  Clark hit a pair of 3-pointers and Cherwinski added one of her own during the run.  Cherwinski would then close out the game with her fourth triple of the contest in the final minute.

All five Sonoma State starters reached double figures and all nine players scored in the contest.  Cherwinski led all players with 16 points, setting a new career high while Herrmann recorded her first double-double with 13 points and a career best 15 rebounds.  Clark and Blackard tacked on 13 points apiece with Alli McDonald notching her fourth double-double in five games with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Seawolves are off until next Thursday when they open CCAA play against defending champions Cal State Dominguez Hills at home.  Visit our homepage for links to the live stream, live stats and ticket information.
