FRESNO, CALIF. – On Saturday, December 16th, the Sonoma State men's basketball team secured their second straight win in dominant fashion with an 18-point victory over PacWest member Fresno Pacific. The Seawolves will enter the holiday break in good spirits with four players finishing in double figures leading to one of their more balanced offensive performances this season. LMU transfer
James Nobles led the way with a team high 13 points off the bench while starters
Julian Bryant,
Andrew Henderson and
Cameron Barry all finished in double figures, combining for 35 points on the night.
FIRST HALF SSU 36-28 FPU
The Seawolves imposed their will early on kicking off the game with a 17-2 run, holding the Sunbirds to just one made field goal out of their first seven attempts and forcing five turnovers during that stretch. Highlighting the scoring run was an emphatic put back dunk from
Dillon Iyawe and a catch and shoot three off a well executed in-bound play to force an early Fresno Pacific timeout.
FPU would respond and get the deficit back to single digits just minutes later, but SSU would answer in a timely fashion and maintain an eight-point lead at the half. Despite the rough start the Sunbirds went on to shoot over 50% from the field to close the gap and keep them in the game. The Seawolves outpaced Fresno Pacific from three and the charity stripe to maintain their lead at the break.
FINAL SSU 70-52 FPU
Out of the half, Sonoma State would start fast once again and go on a 10-3 scoring run to extend the lead back to 15 points. It would be the
Cameron Barry and
Andrew Henderson show, as the duo combined for all ten points during the scoring run and hit a pair of three balls.
The Seawolves held the Sunbirds to just 25% shooting in the second half and after building their lead back to double digits, they would never look back and lead by as many as 22 in the half. Head coach
Rich Shayewitz would put together another balanced half of scoring, finishing 46% from the field and 38% from three. They would outscore FPU by ten points in the paint and force a season high 19 turnovers to secure the non-conference win.
The Seawolves put together one of their most balanced scoring nights of the season with four players finishing in double figures. Barry and Henderson finished with 12 points apiece and combined for 7 steals.
Julian Bryant recorded his second straight game in double figures with 11 points on 4-7 shooting.
James Nobles would play 22 minutes off the bench and lead the team with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
