SB: Seawolves Open CCAA Play with Two Shutouts of San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO – The Sonoma State softball was used two dominant pitching performance and an unrelenting offense to power their way to 9-0 and 11-0 wins over San Francisco State.  The Seawolves combined for 24 hits in the two games while limiting the Gators to just five as they improve to 8-1 on the season.

Bailee Reed was excellent in the circle once again for SSU, picking up her third win of the week and fifth of the season.  She allowed just one baserunner, a 3rd inning single in a complete game, five-inning shutout.  Reed struck out six batters and has not allowed an earned run in her last 20 innings.

Offensively the Seawolves got to work early, scoring a run in the top of the 1st inning on back-to-back doubles by Giana Hays and Jordyn Martinez.  They would add another in 3rd with Reagan Hunt singling and stealing second before coming in to score on a single by Rylee Nishimoto

The game moved into the 5th with the score still 2-0 before Sonoma State broke it open with a seven-run innings. Hunt led off with a double and scored on a single by Anna Zoia-Buescher before Nishimoto and Hays both hit singles to load the bases.  Martinez followed with a RBI and Courtney Jack plated another with a single of her own.  Skylar Linnane then added a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0 and Sierra Moffett scored two more in a single plus an error.  The final run came on Hunt's second hit of the inning to close the scoring at 9-0.

Reed did the rest, retiring the Gators in order in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.  Hunt finished 3 for 3 in the game with a stolen base while Nishimoto, Hays and Martinez added two hits apiece.

The Seawolves offense did not let up in the nightcap, pounding out 12 hits again while Nichole Sarra shutdown the Gators from the circle.  Sarra threw her third complete game of the year with a six inning shutout and allowed just four hits.  Martinez delivered the first big hit of the contest, doubling in the 3rd to score Zoia-Buescher who reached on a walk and stole second.

Sonoma State broke the game open in the 4th with a five-run inning.  Linnane led off with a single and Cassidy Romano reached on an error two batters later to put runners on second and third.  Hunt then also reached on an error allowing a run to score.  Zoia-Buescher then walked and Nishimoto singled to load the based for Hays who followed with a two-run single to left.  Martinez closed out the scoring in the 4th with a line drive single to make it 5-0.

The Seawolves were far from done, adding another in the 5th and then four more in the 6th.  Romano delivered the final hit with a two-run double to make it 11-0 and set it up for Sarra to close out the contest in the bottom of the frame.  Sarra got the final two outs on a double play to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Linnane led the offense with three hits while Nishimoto, Hays, Martinez and Romano finished with two apiece and combined for six RBIs.

These two teams will square off again tomorrow for another doubleheader in San Francisco starting at 12:00 pm.  Live stream will be available on the CCAA Network and live stats at www.sonomaseawolves.com.
