VB: Seawolves Pick Up Road Victory at Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Sonoma State volleyball notched a road win on Wednesday night, travelling to Dominican and defeating the Penguins 3-1.  The Seawolves took the first set at 25-12 before closing out the match with 25-21 and 25-18 wins in the third and fourth sets respectively.

The first set was all SSU as they broke a 6-6 tie and never looked back. Brooklyn Jackson and Jen Trephan started a four-point run with back-to-back kills and later the Seawolves tacked on seven unanswered to cruise to a 25-12 win.

Dominican fought back in the second set to even the match and then started scorching hot in the third.  The Penguins jumped out to a 10-2 lead before the Seawolves stormed back.  Sonoma State pulled within two at 21-19 before taking the final six points.  Kiana Richardson started the rally with a kill and Jackson added two of her own.  Her final kill made it set point and a Dominican attacking error ended the contest.

The Seawolves once again rallied later to put the match away, breaking a 10-10 tie and never trailing again.  Jen Trephan recorded two kills during the set swinging run with Richardson adding one of her own.  Later in the set Kaili Spooner delivered a key ace and Emily Hernandez notched a pair of kills.

The win was Sonoma State's fourth in a row against the Penguins and their 14th in the last 15 matchups between the two schools.  The Seawolves held a 46-35 kill advantage including 15-9 in the fourth set.

Trephan recorded her third triple-double of the young season, finishing with 12 kills, 14 assists and 11 digs.  Richard and Krist added nine and eight kills respectively and Kaden Young finished with a team best 12 digs.

The Seawolves are back in action on Friday for their home opener against Cal State San Bernardino at 7:00 pm.  Live stats and ticket links can be found at sonomaseawolves.com and the game can also be streamed live on the CCAA Network.
