ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State and Azusa Pacific combined for nine goals in Thursday's non-conference tilt with the Cougars coming out on top 6-3. The game was an offensive battle with the teams trading goals throughout before four unanswered in the second half put the game away for APU.
The scoring started right away with the visitors netting the first goal on a blast from Alexis Fuller from 30 yards out. Less than ten minutes later the Seawolves answered back with their first goal of the season.
Luna Chavez ripped a shot from 40 yards out that connected with the crossbar and bounced back in front of the goal.
Annette Sotelo ran onto the rebound and slotted it home to tie the score at 1-1.
The Cougars regained the lead in the 20
th minute when Bethany Tee knocked home a ball from inside the box but once again Sonoma State would answer quickly. Sotelo provided the equalizer for the second time of the half, hitting a shot from 35 yards into the empty net after the goalie came out of the box to try and clear the ball.
The game moved to the second half knotted at 2-2 and it was the Seawolves who would strike first. Sotelo drew a foul outside of the box to set up an opportunity for Sonoma State.

Julia Betti blasted the shot inside the left post for her first goal of the season and a 3-2 lead.
Sonoma State held the lead for 17 minutes for APU blew the game open with four goals in an 11-minute span. The Cougars tied the game at 3-3 in the 68
th minute and went ahead for good in the 70
th. They would add two more before the game was over and take the contest 6-3.
The teams combined for 29 shots with Azusa Pacific leading 16-13. Sotelo's two goals were her second career multi-score game while Chavez picked up an assist in her collegiate debut.
Claudia Janese made two stops in net in the first half for SSU.
The Seawolves get one day off before returning to action on Saturday afternoon against Biola. The game will kick-off at 2:30 pm at Seawolf Soccer Field. Live stats and stream are available through links at
