WSOC: Sotelo’s Second Half Score Lifts Seawolves over Biola

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Annette Sotelo's goal in the 56th minute proved to be all the Sonoma State women's soccer team needed to pick up their first victory of the season.  The Seawolves outshot the Eagles 17-4 to even their record on the season to 1-1-1.

SSU dominated the run of the play in the first half, firing 10 shots while the defense surrendered just two.  Julia Betti came the closest to netting a first half goal with a shot from outside the box that sailed just wide.  The Seawolves put three shots on target in the half while not allowing a single shot on frame.

Sonoma State continued to apply pressure early in the second half and broke through just over ten minutes into the period.  Jenna Dean played a ball into the box to Malia Falk who flicked a shot into the goalkeeper.  Sotelo then ran onto the loose ball and on her second attempt popped it over the goalie and into the back of the net.  The goal was Sotelo's third of the season, all coming in the last two games.

The Seawolves defense did the rest from there, keeping the Eagles off the board for their second clean sheet of the season.  Claudia Janese made one save to earn her second shutout of the year.

SSU is back in action on Wednesday when they head to San Rafael to take on Dominican at 4:00 pm.  Visit www.sonomaseawolves.com for links to the live stream and live stats.
