MBB: Seawolves Go Toe-to-Toe with 22nd Ranked Yotes, Fall by 9 to Conclude SoCal Road Trip

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. - On Saturday, January 13th, the Sonoma State men's basketball team battled it out with the 22nd ranked Coyotes of San Bernardino. The Seawolves would jump out to an early 11-4 lead with great action inside getting buckets from Andrew Henderson, Julian Bryant and Dillon Iyawe. SSU would shoot a perfect 5-5 from the field during that stretch but San Bernardino would answer with a dominant 19-0 to take a 13-point lead midway through the first half.

Sonoma State would bounce back and forth between single and double digit deficits for the majority of the second half but failed to get that extra basket to come within a couple of possessions late in the game. Both teams would make 15 field goals in the second half but San Bernardino would shoot over 60% from the field and knock down ten free throws to ice the game for the 9-point victory.

Shayewitz and his group put together one of their best offensive performances of the season finishing 47% from the field and 50% from three, knocking down eight triples on the night. They would outscore the Coyotes 32-19 in bench points and 38-36 in the paint. Henderson, Bryant, Berry and Williams III all finished in double figures with Berry shooting over 50% from the field and recording a team high 16 points.

Matt Williams III continued his success from Thursday and finished with his second highest scoring night of the season, recording 15 points on 5-7 shooting. Pierce Rexford also knocked down a pair of triples and Nick Medeiros had a solid second half, finishing with seven points and five assists.

Sonoma State falls to 8-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Seawolves will return to the Wolves' Den next Thursday to take on Cal State East Bay at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be bought online at sonomaseawolves.com/tickets and you can stream the game LIVE on the CCAA Network.
