Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Seawolves Fall at Chico State 73-62

CHICO, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's basketball team dropped a tough road contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to Chico State 73-62.  The Seawolves moved to 11-9 on the season with the loss and now sit a 6-7 in CCAA play.

The game started with both teams getting early leads and SSU taking an 8-6 advantage after back-to-back 3-pointers by Sienna Cherwinski and Alli McDonald.  After the Wildcats regained the advantage McDonald hit a late layup to put the Seawolves ahead 13-12.  Chico State responded with the final two points of the quarter and led 14-13 after one.

The scoring took off in the second with both teams pouring in bucks.  The Seawolves grabbed the lead with five straight points coming from Jayme Blackard and Emerson Herrmann before Chico State went ahead 23-20 with a run of their own.  Ixchel Rojo answered with a triple to tie the game at 23-23.  The Wildcats broke the game open from that point, scoring 11 unanswered before a 3-pointer from McDonald ended the run.

Sonoma State trailed by 11 entering the second half and the Wildcats wasted little time jumping that lead up to as many as 20 in the third.  Cherwinski ended the third with her second three of the contest but the margin was still 17 entering the fourth.  SSU used a late run to get the margin down to 11 but that was as close as they would get.

McDonald led all players with 19 points, finishing 6 of 9 from the field and hitting a pair of 3-pointers.  Cherwinski also reached double figures with 13 and Herrmann tacked on 10.

The Seawolves return home for the start of a four-game homestand beginning on Thursday against Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 pm.  Live stream will be available on the CCAA Network.
