MBB: Team Performance Puts Seawolves Back in Winning Column with Victory over Otters

SEASIDE, CALIF. – On Thursday, January 4th, the Sonoma State men's basketball team put together an impressive team performance featuring four players in double figures to take down Cal State Monterey Bay 82-73 in the Kelp Bed. Andrew Henderson and Nick Medeiros led the way with 14 points apiece while Julian Bryant and James Nobles combined for 23 points on the night.

The Seawolves held the Otters to just 21 points in the first half on eight made field goals to take a decisive 18-point lead into the break. Monterey Bay would catch fire in the second half though with 7 made three pointers for 52 second half points, but head coach Rich Shayewitz and his group would have their best free throw shooting night, finishing 27-31 from the line to put the game to bed late.

Turnovers were another big factor as the Seawolves committed just 9 on the night but forced 16 for the Otters, converting 21 points off those turnovers. Henderson, Medeiros and Matt Williams III each had a pair of steals on the night. Another key bench performer was 6-8 freshman forward Terence Haywood who finished with a season high 7 points and 5 rebounds. Haywood stretched the floor for the Seawolves and had a pair of huge offensive boards leading to points late in the second half.

LMU transfer James Nobles had a strong second half scoring 10 of his 12 points. He finished 5-8 from the field in his 20 minutes of action and had a pair of big layups to answer the Otters during a big scoring run.

With just one made three on the night, the Seawolves got the job done inside and at the free throw line, finishing with a season high 27 made free throws. SSU continues to score at an efficient clip finishing the night at 49% from the field. They have shot over 40% from the field in 10 of their 12 games this season.
