Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Wins Second Straight with 2-0 Victory Over San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF.- The Seawolves late season surge is in full swing thanks to another 2-0 victory! It was a complete effort that saw the team pick up key victory with the season winding down. The end of season road trip off to a great start for coach Ziemer and the boys!

Offensively it was an efficient showing with a total of 13 shots, eight of which were on target. Sonoma would get their first goal of the night roughly 30 minutes into the match thanks to Oswaldo Rojas. Rojas has been one of the most consistent players on the pitch this season. He currently ranks third on the team among non-goalkeepers in minutes played and has appeared in all 16 matches this season. The offense got going with Alejandro Zarate dribbling up the left side of the field. Zarate then found Rojas with a perfect pass that led to a right footed shot that found the back of the net.

The scoreboard would sit at 1-0 till the final nine minutes of the match. To seal the win Alejandro Zarate made sure to put the final nail in the proverbial coffin. With an assist already in the boxscore, Zarate would find the back of the net. With the Coyotes goalie coming out of the net to try and make a play, Michael Gray was able to cause some chaos and steal the ball away from the opposing goalkeeper. Gray made a quick pass to Zarate who tapped the ball into the goal. Zarate has been key in setting up his teammates all year long as he currently has four assists on the season. This would be his second goal of the year and couldn't have come at a better time to secure a win.

Lastly, starting goalie Jack Chapman has been playing his best soccer of the year over the past few weeks. Chapman entered this week as the reigning CCAA Defender of the Year. After a clean sheet against the San Francisco State Gators, Chapman had another dominant day in the net. He tied his season high in saves with 10 on the day and posted his second consecutive shutout.

After two straight wins the boys will now look to keep the momentum rolling. They will be back in action this Sunday against Cal Poly Pomona. The offense is starting to find a groove and the defense is shutting opponents out; the Seawolves are looking mighty dangerous as the regular season comes to a close.
