ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Basketball got back to their winning ways with a big time win against the visiting Bobcats of UC Merced. Three Seawolves reached double figures in scoring, four players grabbed at least six rebounds and the defense forced 17 turnovers. It was a strong, complete team showing that helped the team get back to their winning ways with CCAA competition up next once Thanksgiving break comes to an end!
The story of the day was starting center Abbey Hadsell. Hadsell, a transfer from Monterey Bay, had her best performance as a Sonoma State Seawolf to date. Hadsell scored 19 points via a perfect three of three shooting performance from deep. She also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked a shot en route to a team best plus-11 in terms of her plus/minus rating. Hadsell's ability to shoot the three while standing six-foot-two makes her a mismatch nightmare for teams who have to account for her ability to operate in the post while also pulling defenders away from the paint.
It was also a great showing for 2023 CCAA Honorable Mention guard Jayme Blackard. Blackard was dominant when attacking the rim, particularly in the second half. Blackard put up a 50% shooting percentage while also knocking down both of her attempts from behind the arc. Her 22 points marked a team high while stuffing the rest of the statsheet with eight boards, three assists and four steals.
Sheriene Arikat had a great game as well as a do everything, utility wing. Her five points don't tell the whole story as she was an active rebounder with seven total rebounds, two of which were of the offensive variety. She was also outstanding as a playmaker from the high post with seven assists. Arikat's feel for the game as a senior, veteran player was big for this team as they were able to manufacture easy buckets thanks to her passing ability.
The Seawolves earned a big time victory that sets them up nicely with conference play right around the corner. Cal State San Marcos will be making the trip to the Wolves Den next Saturday, November 30th to kickstart CCAA play!
