Men’s Soccer Finishes 2024 Season With 2-0 Victory Over Lumberjacks

ARCATA, CALIF.-The 2024 soccer season has officially come to an end but not before the Sonoma Seawolves made one final statement to wrap up their year. Their 2-0 victory over the Lumberjacks of Cal Poly Humboldt marks the third time in their last four matches where Sonoma has won by a final score of 2-0.

For over 80 minutes of action the two programs sat in a stalemate with neither able to make a decisive scoring effort. Statistically the two teams played each other to a near draw with Sonoma taking 16 shots, securing five saves, earning seven corner kicks and only managing six fouls. Leading the way for the Seawolves was Alejandro Zarate. Zarate has come alive during the Seawolves home stretch. In his last three matches played he has totaled two goals and two assists. Zarate was able to find the back of the net thanks to well placed passes from Jvon Cunningham and Jose Rios Lara. It was Cunningham's third assist of the year and Rios Lara's first.

Yet, despite the clock ticking down in the final minutes, Christian Alvarado made sure to end the 2024 Seawolves soccer eason with a bang. With roughly one minute and 10 seconds on the clock the freshman midfielder was able to weave his way through the Lumberjacks defense and found the back of the net. It was Alvarado's first career goal as he has spent much of the season setting up his teammates with four assists for the year.

With the 2024 season coming to a close with the Seawolves finishing second in the CCAA in terms of total saves while also adding 22 goals and 21 assists on the year. Now coach Marcus Ziemer and the staff will turn their attention to developing their returning players and looking to add new reinforcements as needed!
