HAYWARD, CALIF. - On Wednesday, March 6th, the Sonoma state baseball team resumed their series finale with Cal State East Bay which was suspended last weekend due to rain. They led 9-3 at the time of the stoppage and picked up right where they left off with a 5-run 7th inning which featured a 3-run moonshot from shortstop
Daniel Monti. The Seawolves tacked on three more in the 8th with a 2-run bomb from
Christopher Wright that nearly cleared the redwoods over the right field fence. They would finish with 12 hits and freshman
Luke Ivanoff got credit for his second win with 5 innings of work and 6 strikeouts.
7TH INNING
A pair of 1-out walks before play was suspended would set the table on Wednesday with Wright leading things off. East Bay's pitcher would walk the next two batters to make it four straight in the inning and plate
Kenny Decelle from third.
Chris Ortiz would pick up an RBI the next at bat with a fielder's choice and then
Daniel Monti would add the exclamation point with a towering 3-run shot to left field to extend their lead to 14-3.
8TH INNING
SSU would get the first two batters on base and take advantage of an error as center fielder
Kenny Decelle recorded his 9th RBI of the season with a sac fly to center. Two batters later Wright would come back to the plate and send a no-doubter over the right field fence for his team leading 4th of the season. The 2-run shot would push the lead to 17-3 for the Seawolves and help seal the series split with the Pioneers.
Rain would stop play in the top of the 9th but the game would later be made official after 8 innings, finalizing the score at 17-4.
Marcellus Henry made his 6th appearance of the season and threw three innings of relief, giving up just one run on two hits. Five different players recorded multiple hits in the contest with Wright, Barto and Monti combining for 10 RBI's.
