Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seawolves Battle to a Draw in Atherton, California Against Menlo

ATHERTON, CALIF.-Sonoma State Men's Soccer was back on the road for a local matchup against the Oaks of Menlo College. It was a beautiful day for some high scoring soccer with the match ending in a 3-3 draw. The Seawolves have been on an offensive tear as this marks their third straight game of scoring at least two goals.

The team wasted no time getting off to a hot start which has been their calling card of late. In the first 20 minutes of action coach Ziemer's squad scored three goals on three assists. Alejandro Zarate kickstarted the offensive attack finding the back of the net just nine minutes into the match. His fellow forward Michael Gray earned the assist. Not to be outdown, Gray would get on the board himself with an unassisted goal roughly four minutes later. The team's final goal during the scoring barrage was highlighted by excellent ball movement with Oswaldo Rojas being the recipient of assists from Jvon Cunningham and Zarate. The Oaks did keep things competitive thanks to forward Isak Haukefaer scoring his fourth goal in as many games.

The second half marked an increased level of intensity for both teams. Multiple yellow cards were assessed to both the Oaks and Seawolves. Menlo would cut into the lead with a penalty goal kick off the foot of David Stuber. Unfortunately, the game would become a tight affair with the Seawolves playing the final 20 minutes down a player due to receiving a red card at roughly the 71 minute mark. Despite the disadvantage the Seawolves refused to back down and were able to leave Atherton with a 3-3 draw.

The team was highly efficient on the day and even though they only took seven shots five of them would be on goal. Michael Gray continues to play well offensively with two goals on the season and the offense has come alive. At this point seven different players have scored at least one goal and another seven have at least one assist.

Sonoma State returns to the pitch this Sunday when they take on Dominican at home. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2:00 pm.
