Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seawolves & Penguins Defensive Duel Ends in 0-0 Draw

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Fans of Seawolf Soccer were treated to a 90 minute, defensive battle between two local programs. Penguins of Dominican University went toe to toe with the Seawolves in a matchup that featured outstanding defense and multiple near goals. Sonoma State generated plenty of solid scoring opportunities and will look to get back to their high scoring ways in conference play.

While they may not have been able to find the back of the net, the Seawolves continued to bring their signature aggressive offensive style. For the game they posted 16 shots with five of them on goal. Said five shots on goal came from five different players highlighting the team's ability to move the ball and get quality offensive looks for everyone on the field at any given time. On top of all of these shots the team also did an excellent job of keeping the ball on the Penguins side of the field. This resulted in six earned corner kicks as well.

In the goal for the Seawolves, Jack Chapman did a great job of orchestrating his team's defensive effort. While he did not post any saves, this was simply due to the fact that Sonoma refused to allow any type of quality looks to their opponent. Chapman served as an outlet for his defenders to fall back on and was vocal in directing players to various areas of the field.

This match highlighted the less glamorous aspects of a soccer match. Yet, the toughness and team's ability to stay focused even without goals being scored will serve them well as conference play begins. Sonoma State returns to the pitch this Saturday when they take on Cal Poly Humboldt at home. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 12:30 pm.
