TURLOCK, Calif. - The Sonoma State volleyball team emerged victorious in their CCAA road opener on Friday against Stanislaus State, securing a 3-1 win (25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 26-24). The victory improved the Seawolves record to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Seawolves demonstrated their offensive prowess throughout the match, led by 
Jackie Winfield, who finished with a match best 15 kills.  
Peyton McBride tallied 12 kills and 
Jordyn Waite-Ward added 10 of her own to put three Sonoma State players in double figures.  SSU's attack was orchestrated by the setting duo of 
Brynna Slayton and 
Jules Tan, who combined for 46 assists. Slayton, in particular, showcased her all-around game with 24 assists, 11 digs, and a team-leading 5 service aces
The Seawolves' defense proved crucial in securing the win. 
Brooklyn Jackson anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs, while also contributing 9 kills and 2 service aces. 
Kaden Young added 9 digs to the defensive effort.  At the net, Sonoma State's blocking game was effective, with Waite-Ward leading the charge with 4 block assists. The team's combined blocking efforts helped limit Stanislaus State to a .071 hitting percentage for the match.
 
The Seawolves came out strong in the first set, dominating with a 25-16 win. Despite a setback in the second set (21-25), Sonoma State regrouped to take the third set convincingly at 25-17. The fourth and final set proved to be a battle, with the Seawolves narrowly edging out the Warriors 26-24 to clinch the match
Sonoma State held a 56-32 kill advantage for the match and led the kill battle in each of the four sets.  The Seawolves limited the Warriors to single digit kills in 3 of the 4 sets while also holding an 11-6 advantage in aces. 
 
SSU is back in action tomorrow night when they head up to Chico State for another CCAA tilt.  The match has been moved to Pleasant Valley HS and is schedule to start at 5:00 pm.  Live stream will not be available for this match.
