Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Seawolves Push Chio to Five Sets in Close Loss on the Road

CHICO, CALIF.- To close out their northern California road trip Sonoma State Volleyball headed up to Chico State for a showdown with the Wildcats. What followed was a tightly contested match that came down to a decisive fifth set of action. While the Seawolves came up just short there were some bright spots thanks to strong play from various individuals on the court.

Offensively, a trio Seawolves put together strong showings. Peyton McBride led all players with 16 kills on the day. McBride now posted double-digit kills in seven of the team's last eight games. Jordyn Waite-Ward is enjoying a strong first season having redshirted her freshman year. Her 12 kills came courtesy of a .308 hitting percentage. Lastly, Jackie Winfield also got in on the scoring with 11 kills of her own. Brynna Slayton and Jules Tan continue to set up their hitters as the pair combined for 44 assists.

On defense, the Seawolves did a solid job defending against Chico's attacks as well. Five different players recorded at least eight digs. Newcomer Cooper Meadow led the team with a game high 17 digs. Brooklyn Jackson also was impactful with 10 digs of her own as well.

It was a back and forth affair all evening long. Coach Bear Grassl's squad managed to win the first and third set in convincing fashion. While they came up just short in the final set of the match, look to the Seawolves to right the ship with a homestand on deck. SSU is back in action  on October 3rd for another CCAA tilt against Cal State San Marcos. The match has been scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
