SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.- Sonoma State Men's Basketball had been away from game action for almost a month before tonight's matchup against the Gators of San Francisco State. While the Seawolves would fall by a final score of 64-75 there were still a handful of positive elements that will serve the team well heading into the new year!
The team was active on the glass throughout the game with four players recording at least five rebounds. Most notably, Jakob Milling has emerged as the teams premier glass cleaner as he pulled down a season high 11 rebounds, his second straight double digit rebounding effort. The Gators had no answer for Milling particularly on the offensive side of the ball as he grabbed a game high six offensive rebounds, two more than the Gators had as a team.
In terms of putting the ball in the basket, Julian Bryant and Nick Medeiros posted 14 points each. Both players were efficient shooting a combined 52% from the floor and 50% from deep. They also grabbed five rebounds apiece for good measure. Bryant may have gotten off to a slow scoring start on the year but he has now eclipsed double figures in scoring in six of his last seven outings.
The highlight of the night came courtesy of Aaron Ragen who has broken out over his last three outings. Ragen was on fire from three hitting five shots from deep on 10 attempts. The Gators had now answer for the six-foot-two guard who had clearly begun to find his rhythm in the Seawolves offense. Over his last three appearances not only is he shooting 48% from three, he has hit multiple clutch shots. With Ragen's ability to stretch the floor and his overall competitive spirit as a defender and willingness to make hustle plays, the arrow is pointing up for the Seawolves overall shooting ability.
The result was not what the team was hoping for with 2025 officially underway but thankfully they will be right back in action on January 4th set as the teams next CCAA matchup, this time with Cal State East Bay!
