TURLOCK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Basketball has begun to find their stride thanks to a well rounded effort that saw four players score in double figures while holding the Warriors of Stanislaus State to a sub-29% shooting percentage across 40 minutes of action.
The Seawolves defensive effort was huge in blowing the game wide open. The Warriors shot under 40% from the field in each of the four quarters and the defensive pressure was stifling in the second half. In the third period, the Warriors were only able to muster a 13% shooting percentage. Sonoma would also force 16 turnovers and swiped eight steals. Sheriene Arikat was everywhere on defense as she came away with five steals of her own.
On offense the team was firing on all cylinders. For the game they shot 47% from the field, 48% from three and had four players score 10 points or more. Leading the way was the backcourt duo of Jayme Blackard and Jennifer Moreno. Both players scored 15 points a piece while combining to shoot an effective 9-16 from the floor. Moreno also hit three three point shots for good measure. Meanwhile Blackard stuffed the statsheet pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out nine assists.
Rounding out some key scorers was Alysa Lopez who reached her third consecutive double digit scoring effort. Lopez was also on fire from three hitting three shots from deep at a 50% clip. Lopez was also effective on the glass as well with seven boards of her own. Arikat not only had five steals but she scored 10 points, shot perfectly from behind the arc, grabbed four boards and handed out four assists.
The Seawolves have found a rhythm on both ends of the court. With three straight wins they now turn their attention to Monterey Bay where they will look to extend the winning streak to four games!
