SEASIDE, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Basketball has spent the past two weeks playing their best basketball of the season enroute to winning their fourth straight game. Sonoma State has found a winning recipe that includes stifling defense and a deep rotation. For the game six players recorded at least four points, five players grabbed at least three rebounds and four players swiped at least two steals. The Seawolves keep on winning and are right in the thick of the CCAA playoff race!
Junior guard Alysa Lopez has been filling up the bucket over her last six outings, with five of said games ending with Lopez reaching double figures in scoring. Against the Otters Lopez was unguardable. She scored a game high 21 points while shooting 60% from the floor and 67% from behind the arc. She was also active on the boards with a game high eight rebounds and came up with two steals for good measure.
Alongside Lopez, Sheriene Arikat has been playing at a high level recently as well. Arikat scored a season high 11 points but as has been the case all year did her best work as the teams "do it all" forward. With five rebounds, two assists and two steals Arikat has totaled nine steals and 15 rebounds during the team's four game winning streak.
As a unit the Seawolves held the Otters to an ice-cold 32% shooting percentage from the floor while forcing 21 turnovers as well. Sonoma would score 22 points off said turnovers while also scoring 13 fast breaks while limiting the Otters to zero fast break points.
Sonoma is firing on all cylinders right now and is primed to keep the winning streak alive. Over their four game winning streak they have not allowed a team to score more than 62 points and have not allowed their opponents to shoot over 40% from the field. With timely offensive contributions from the whole roster and top tier defense, Sonoma State should look to push the winning streak further!
