Women’s Basketball Gives Cal State East Bay All They Can Handle in Narrow Loss

HAYWARD, CALIF.- The Seawolves once again hit the road for their second matchup of 2025 coming off a decisive win over the Gators of San Francisco State. For 40 minutes coach Abeyta's squad battled with the Pioneers of East Bay and came up just short.

Sienna Cherwinski opened up the new year with her best performance of the season against San Francisco State. She followed up her breakout game with an even better performance out in the East Bay. Cherwinski caught fire from deep, knocking down five three point shots at an impressive 45% clip. Her 17 points were a game high but she was also a force on the defensive side of the ball. The sophomore guard swiped four steals while also pulling down two offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive for the Seawolves. Over her last two outings the Arizona native is now shooting 51% from three on 18 attempts.

Jayme Blackard also had another solid night scoring the basketball with 16 points of her own. Blackard has reached double figures in five of her last six games but most importantly, has been highly efficient since the calendar flipped. Her 54% shooting mark is her third highest of the season and is now knocking down 57% of her shots in 2025. With the Seawolves starting backcourt starting to find a groove, the offense will only continue to put up points.

Down low, Abbey Hadsell earned her fifth start of the season and responded with a strong outing. In her 29 minutes of action she scored 11 points, pulled in a pair of rebounds and only committed a single foul. She also knocked down a three to stretch the floor.

The opening 2025 road trip has wrapped for the Seawolves who now return to the confines of the Wolves Den on January 9th for a showdown with the visiting Golden Eagles of Cal State LA. The team holds a solid 3-2 record in CCAA play and will look to stack another notch in the win column next Thursday!
