ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- Sonoma State Baseball officially got underway with a showdown against the visiting Nighthawks of Northwest Nazarene. It was the debut of a team featuring a great combination of veteran returners and fresh faces with new head coach Jacob Garsez at the helm!
Leading the way at the plate for the Seawolves was the duo of Chris Oritz and Gabriel Tapia. Ortiz would go two for three on the day with a pair of singles out to left centerfield. Ortiz's composure was on full display as he also was able to draw a pair of walks. Tapia also added two hits to his resume including a double out to left field.
Alongside this pair Joey Replogle hit the first homerun of the season driving in two runs while Evan Merz well timed single out to left center also drove in two runs as well. Across the nine innings of action the team collected six hits and earned four walks.
On the mound four different Seawolves saw action with Marcellus Henry drawing the start. Henry struck out three batters through close to four innings of pitching. Hawk Hill earned a pair of strikeouts upon relieving Henry and Jackson Ouellette finished the game strong by closing the final inning without allowing a hit and striking out two batters.
The team will be back in action for another double-header against the Nighthawks this Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 11:00 AM.
