Seawolves Split Midweek Series Against Western Washington

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF.- The Seawolves kicked off the week with a double header showdown with the visiting Vikings of Western Washington. The team put together a solid two games of softball splitting the series and setting them up nicely for their next batch of games against Western Oregon.

Game 1: SSU 1, WW 3

The first game of the day was a low scoring affair that saw the Vikings strike first with two runs in the second inning. Freshman Ava Paquin earned the start on the day and posted six innings of work, only allowing seven hits and did not give up an earned run. In her last three appearances the freshman lefty has only given up a single earned run.

At the plate four different players recorded a hit with Jasmine Moreno leading the way with both a single up the middle and the team's lone RBI for the day. In the sixth inning Sophia Newcomb drew a walk and stole second to get within scoring position. Moreno would then proceed to drive in her starting center fielder and get the Seawolves on the board.

Game 2: SSU 4, WW 0

The second game of the day was a balanced outing that coupled another outstanding performance from the Seawolves ace, Charlie Johnson, and timely hitting that saw the Seawolves pull away late in the game.

Inside the circle, Charlie Johnson was dialed in from the first pitch. Johnson faced 25 batters and forced 17 combined groundouts or flyouts. She also only allowed seven hits despite pitching a complete game for the eighth time this year!

Offensively, it was timely hits that saw the Seawolves pull away late. Despite only posting four hits each time the Seawolves made good contact that capitalized. In the fourth inning, after drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch, Jasmine Moreno and Lauren Mirtoni each got on base. Kaiya Dickens would launch a double out to left center to drive her teammates in and put the Seawolves on the board. In the fifth they continued to add to the lead. Gabby Enyart would start the inning off with a walk while Amari Houston's perfect bunt got her to first. Thanks to strong base running and capitalizing on the Vikings' mistakes Sonoma would score two more runs.

To wrap up the day Lauren Mirtoni would also double and Carrissa Marquez added a single as well.

The Seawolves now turn their attention to a quick turnaround with the Wolves of Western Oregon making the trip to Rohnert Park! The team is 4-2 in their last six contest and starting to hit their stride!
