POMONA, CALIF.- Behind a masterful outing from Blake Janowicz and timely offensive contributions from Tyler Crudo and Garret Barto, Sonoma State powered its way to a 5-4 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night at Scolinos Field.
Janowicz was dominant on the mound, tossing 8.1 strong innings. The senior right-hander was on fire while striking out five without issuing a walk. Janowicz worked efficiently all night, throwing 72 of his 97 pitches for strikes and inducing 12 flyouts and six groundouts.
At the plate, Sonoma State showed impressive discipline, drawing eight walks and collecting eight hits. Crudo led the way offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with a stolen base, providing steady production from the bottom third of the lineup. Barto added two clutch hits and drove in a pair of key runs to keep the Seawolves' offense rolling. On top of these two, Gabe Tapia also drove in a pair of runs thanks to a well placed single out to left field.
The Seawolves took early control with a three-run fifth inning, capitalizing on their patience at the plate and key hits in pressure situations. In total, Sonoma made their hits count, doing enough damage to back Janowicz's stellar performance.
Reliever Hector Luna came in to secure the final two outs, notching the save and preserving a well-earned win for Sonoma State.
