First for the Seawolves is a senior out of Sacramento, #5 Megan Trottier! Megan joined the volleyball program as a true freshman in 2019. She would see quality playing time in her first year, playing in 47 sets and recording 67 digs. After the cancellation of the 2020 season, Megan would have a career year in 2021, playing in 51 sets and finishing with a career high 97 digs! That season Megan also recorded a career high 20 digs in a thrlling 5-set victory over Cal State East Bay. This season, Megan has played in 58 sets, recorded 10 kills and 47 digs. She is accompanied by her parents, Jewel and Kenneth Trottier as well as her sister Ashley. Megan will graduate from SSU with a degree in Biology and hopes to intern at a veterinary clinic in the near future.    

"Being on the volleyball team has helped me learn about patience and confidence. Things might not always turn out the way you want at the exact time you want but it’s important to know you have friends like your teammates that support you and lift you up whenever you need it. I’d like to thank my family for always supporting me. I’d also like to thank my teammates who’ve become good friends of mine, especially Kiana because she’s done so much for me. The best memories I’ve had with the team is hanging around in the hotel rooms or playing games in the back of the bus to pass the time" (Trottier).

#12 Jessie Hobbs (2019-22)

Next for the Seawolves is senior out of Stockton and Lincoln HS, #12 Jessie Hobbs! Jessie joined the SSU volleyball program back in 2019. She would emerge on the scene and have a career year in 2021 as she totaled 98 sets played, 142 kills, and 62 blocks, all good for career highs. This season, Jessie has been another solid contributor in the middle of the court, playing in 80 sets and recording 133 kills, good for 5th most on the team. Jessie recorded a career high 15 kills earlier this season in a 3-1 victory over SF State. She is accompanied by her parents Tammy and Ken Hobbs, sisters Rian and Samantha, brother in-law Andrew, nephew Liam, grandmother Sandy, god-mother Nina and aunt Sheila. Jessie will graduate from SSU with a BA in Psychology and plans to become an animal-assisted therapist.  

“I am forever grateful for the opportunities & relationships SSU volleyball has brought me. I feel confident in the fact that my coaches, teammates, and family, have helped prepare me to take on whatever life throws at me next. I am extremely proud of my team & thankful to my coaches for having faith in me and pushing me to grow everyday. I will cherish the memories & lessons I’ve learned here & will miss my volleyball family very much but am excited for my next chapter in life!” (Hobbs)

#21 Angel Gamboa (2019-22)

Lastly for Sonoma State is a senior defensive specialist from Vacaville, #21 Angel Gamboa! Angel also joined the Seawolves program in 2019 as a true freshman. Gamboa would see some playing time during the 2019 season but have her breakout year in 2021, playing in a career high 72 sets, recording a career high 27 aces and 111 digs, both good for top-5 on the team. This season, Angel has played in 22 sets, recorded 7 aces and finished with a season high 7 digs against Western Washington. She is joined by her parents, Susan and Shane Gamboa, brother Donovan and sister Iris. Angel will graduate with a degree in Biology and has future plans to attend a 2-year Radiology Technician program as she pursues a career as an ultrasound technician. 
 

"While playing for the Sonoma state volleyball team I learned that it is important to enjoy every single moment because I will miss it as soon as it’s over. One day I’ll look back on all of my memories here and wish that I could experience it all over again. I would like to thank my friends and family who are always supporting and cheering me on from wherever they are. I have made some of the bestest friends here on the team who I will forever love and appreciate. Thank you guys for always being there for me. I’ve had some of the best memories while traveling with my teammates to different places. No matter where we are we find ways to entertain ourselves and have the funniest conversations" (Gamboa).

2019 SEASON STATS: 31 SP, 1 AST., 2 ACES, 46 DIGS
