Contreras was a part of the most successful team in SSU history.  After an unprecedented 29-1 start to the season, the 2008 Seawolves set a school record with 52 wins on their way to CCAA and NCAA West Region championships.  Making their first trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series, the Seawolves won their first two games and finished third in the nation.  Contreras was also a part of the 2011 West Region championship team that went to the College World Series in Cary, NC.  Contreras was also a part of two CCAA championship teams, most recently in 2014.

Before arriving at SSU, Contreras spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons at CCAA rival San Francisco State as the 3rd base and hitting coach, working under former Sonoma State coach and player Matt Markovich.  Contreras began his coaching career in 2004 as the head assistant coach at Monterey Peninsula Junior College, under another former SSU player, Daniel Phillips.  Contreras also served as the head coach of the San Francisco Angels, a collegiate wood bat team, from 2004 to 2006 and helped lead them to the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, KS for the first time in program history.

Before his coaching career began Contreras played at San Diego CC as an outfielder earning 1st team All- League honors in 2001.  Before that he prepped at Ygnacio Valley HS in Concord, Calif., where he was a 1st team All- League player. He also lettered in football and basketball.

Contreras graduated from San Francisco State with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and he recently completed his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State.
