Dominic Maynes

Dominic Maynes acts as another SSU alumni returning to his alma mater to help coach and build his career with the Sonoma State women's basketball program. Maynes began his coaching career during the Seawolves 2019-20 season where he was a student-assistant for the women's program under head coach Rich Shayewitz. During the 2019-20 academic year, Maynes worked towards his degree as he graduated from Sonoma State with a bachelors in Kinesiology upon the spring of 2020.

With the valuable experience he received as a student-assistant under Shayewitz, he found an opportunity with the men's basketball program at Academy of Art. There, he acted as the primary assistant coach for the Urabn Knights for the 2020-21 season. Despite COVID-19 playing a role during that year, members of the PacWest were granted permission to play an abbreviated season which allowed Maynes to further his career and knowledge in the coaching realm with Art U. Upon the 2021-22 season, Maynes has returned to Sonoma State to assist head coach Rich Shayewitz in his fourth season alongside associate head coach Lindsey Foster.

"Having already worked under Rich during the 2019-20 season, I was eager to come back and fulfill a new role for the program all while continuing to learn and grow for myself. I feel like SSU has an atmosphere that I really enjoy especially being a student here for my undergrad so that was also a big factor in wanting to return" (AC, Dominic Maynes).

Dominic Maynes enjoys the details of the game, the different concepts and tactics, he loves to break down opponents and study the game to further his knowledge and his payers knowledge. "I love the development aspect to the game of basketball. I enjoy breaking down the game and providing different perspectives for our players, while broadening their knowledge of the game. I'm looking forward to growing and developing our players this year and embarking on the challenge as a coach on meshing our new group of players with some of our veterans and multi-year returners" (AC, Maynes).

The Sonoma State women's basketball team officially starts their preseason play for the 2021-22 season this Friday against Dominican University where they will participate in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge hosted by Chico State.
