2023 WBB Assistant Trevor Cropped HS

Trevor Johnson

Trevor Johnson was named the lead assistant for the Sonoma State women’s basketball team in the fall of 2023. Originally from Philadelphia, Johnson got his coaching career started as the Windsor High School’s men’s assistant in 2018. From there, Johnson leaped over to the women’s side to become the head assistant coach for the varsity program. Johnson returned to school to get his Master’s in Kinesiology in 2022 from San Jose State. For the 2022-23 season, he would serve on the Spartans women’s basketball staff as a Graduate Student Manager before landing the assistant position here at Sonoma State. Johnson completed his undergrad from Penn State with a Bachelors in Kinesiology and Neuropsychology.

At West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Johnson was a multi-sport varsity athlete in soccer and baseball. After moving to California in 2015, he would dive head first into coaching with the basketball programs at Windsor High School. During his time at Windsor, Johnson helped the women’s varsity team to a first place finish and their first section quarterfinals appearance in seven years. Johnson had this to say when given the opportunity to come back to Northern California and continue his coaching career:

“Sonoma County has been a second home to me since moving to California in 2015.  When the opportunity to come back home arose after my year at San Jose State, I didn’t think twice”.

“I love the fast paced nature of the game and the competitive drive it brings out of people.  There are so many ways to find success and be creative while doing so and there’s nothing like it”
