"It's an honor for our guys to play in a first class facility like Raley Field," said Sonoma State head coach John Goelz.  "We have a lot of respect for the Chico State baseball program and this is a great way for us to wrap up our series."

Always a hotly contested series, the rivalry between Sonoma State and Chico State goes back decades.  Over the last six seasons, the teams have played even, with both winning 12 of the 24 games played.  Regular foes in the postseason as well, the teams have met 19 times in either the CCAA or NCAA Tournament.  In addition, Sonoma (5) and Chico (3) are responsible for eight of the 13 conference championships since 1999.

Home to the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, Raley Field opened on the banks of the Sacramento River in 2000.  With 11,093 permanent seats and grass seating for a total capactiy of 14,014, it is among the largest minor league stadiums in the nation.  Last season, Raley Field hosted an average of 8,455 fans for each of the River Cats home games.  It was the fifth-highest total in all of minor league baseball.
