ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Chico State got 26 kills from Gillian Lillich and 22 more from Lindsay Macias to edge Seattle University 3-2 in Saturday action at the Seawolf Spike in Rohnert Park. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 on the season while the Redhawks go to 1-2.
Chico State took the first game 30-24 before Seattle stormed back for a 31-29 game two decision. The teams went back and forth again in the third and fourth with Chico victorious in game three and Seattle in game four.
The fifth and deciding match went back and forth early before the Wildcats were able to pull away down the stretch for a 15-11 win.
Heydorff's 26 kills came on 70 attempts. She also had 24 digs and finished the match at .224. Erica Brick surpassed her own tournament-high with 67 assists. She had 66 against Northwest Nazarene on Friday. Lacy Stringfellow turned in a solid performance on defense, digging 41 Redhawk attacks.
Nikole Thompson had game-high honors for Seattle with 21 kills on 85 attempts. Jamie Mellies went for 49 assists and Heather Gerke was tops with 28 digs. Emily Powell was solid at the net, taking part in nine of the Redhawks' 14 blocks.
Chico State concludes tournament play against Notre Dame de Namur at 7:00 pm. Seattle will take on Sonoma State on Sunday.
