The back of the baseball media guide reads like an honor roll of Bell's accomplishments. He is the school's all-time leader in hits, home runs, doubles, runs batted in, runs scored, walks, and slugging percentage. In most cases, second place isn't even close.
Bell came to SSU in 1998 and batted.328 with eight home runs and 50 RBIs on his way to First Team All-CCAA honors. He improved on those numbers in '99 when he hit .374 with ten round trippers, adding First Team All-West Region honors to his collection, but it was in 2000 that he really made waves.
Despite missing the first seven games of the 2000 season, Bell turned in perhaps the finest single season in Sonoma State history. While playing a stellar shortstop, Bell batted .382 with 23 home runs, 71 runs batted in and a .816 slugging percentage. His home run total bested the previous record by ten. He was named CCAA Player of the Year, West Region Player of the Year, and First Team All-American. He was even selected to compete in a home run derby at the Division I College World Series, where he placed third.
Bell led his team to a 39-23 record in 2000 and in his three years, Sonoma State went 112-69 and captured the '99 CCAA Championship.
Following his three year run at Sonoma State, Bell signed a free agent contract with the San Francisco Giants. He is currently an assistant coach with the Seawolf baseball team.
