Sonoma State's head football coach from 1989 to 1992, Tim Walsh compiled a 27-14 record in his four years at the helm. None of his 27 wins, however, were more important than his 1991 victory over UC Davis that gave the Cossacks their first-ever NCAC title. That '91 team finished 9-2 and was the second-highest ranked team in the state of California, behind Sacramento State. The 1991 team has already been inducted into the Hall of Fame and Walsh becomes the first football coach to be inducted. Following his time at Sonoma State, Walsh went on to spend 14 seasons as the head coach at Portland State. After a couple of seasons as an assistant at Army, Walsh was named head coach of the Cal Poly football team prior to the 2009 season.
