ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The No. 13 Chico State Wildcats rolled past Sonoma State 3-0 (30-20, 30-27, 30-20) in California Collegiate Athletic Association volleyball play on Friday night in Rohnert Park. The Wildcats improve to 17-3, 12-3 CCAA. The Seawolves drop to 8-11, 5-10 CCAA.
Chico State hit a match-high .268 in the first game and after opening up a 10-3 lead, cruised to a 30-20 victory. Game two was the most competitive of the night as Sonoma State had several leads, including a 12-6 edge midway through. Chico State stormed back with a run of their own, taking a lead before SSU pulled to within one at 27-26. From there the Wildcats reeled off three of the next four points for the win.
Sonoma State led at 8-7 in game three, but a 12-4 Chico run took the game and the match.
Jamie Houle led Chico State with 15 kills and a .565 hitting percentage. Lindsay Macias also had a solid all-around night with 12 kills and 11 digs. Erica Brick, MVP of the Seawolf Spike Volleyball Tournament in August, had 40 assists in guiding the Wildcat offense.
Sarah Illingworth had nine kills to lead the Seawolves. Lillian Harms took game-high honors with 19 digs and the duo of Kendall Leatherberry and Lindsay Brown teamed up for 30 assists.
The Seawolves host Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. The Warriors are coached by former SSU star and 2006 Hall of Fame inductee, Chris Difani.
