Harms Sets Digs Mark In 3-1 Win Over Toros

Junior Lillian Harms has had a record breaking season.

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State rallied from a game down to take a 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 35-33, 30-26) win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night in Rohnert Park.  In the game, junior Lillian Harms broke the school's single-season digs mark on her way to a game-high 28.  The Seawolves improve to 10-13, 7-12 CCAA.  The Toros drop to 8-17, 5-14 CCAA with the loss.

Harms got the record-breaking dig late in the first game.  She bested the previous record, set by Leah Rodriguez in 1997, of 531 digs in a season in 14 fewer matches.  Harms finished the game with 553 for the year.  Earlier this season, Harms broke the single-game record with 50 and she owns the digs per-game over a season mark too.

Despite digging themselves a hole with a game one loss, the Seawolves were able to kick it in to high gear for game two.  Led by the hitting of Samantha Jagoda and Michelle Fletcher, SSU got a 30-25 win in the second game, then battled for an exciting 35-33 game three victory.  In game four, the Seawolves led almost the entire way before getting the match-clincher on an ace by Lindsay Webb.

Michelle Fletcher led the way for SSU with 17 kills.  Samantha Jagoda finished with 12 and Lindsay Webb got nine kills in just two games.  Lindsay Brown and Kendall Leatherberry shared setter duties, finishing the night with a combined 51.  SSU frustrated the Toro attackers with 13 blocks, led by Fletcher and Sarah Illingworth, who had six apiece.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got 17 kills from Courtney Spainhour and Penina Suddeth.  Tiffany Bull led the way with 29 assists and Spainhour took game-high honors with 27 digs.

The Seawolves will close out the 2006 season tomorrow night when they host UC San Diego.  It will be Senior Night and SSU's four seniors will be honored in a short ceremony prior to the game.
