Seawolves Fall To No. 14 Western Washington

Danae Wellander led the Seawolves with 14 points on Saturday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  The Sonoma State women came up just short in their bid to knock off nationally ranked teams in back-to-back nights as they fell to No. 14 Western Washington, 64-56, on Saturday night at the CCAA/GNAC Challenge in Rohnert Park.  The Vikings got a game-high 23 points from Mollie Stelmack to improve to 6-1 on the season.  The Seawolves, one night off their win over No. 17 Seattle Pacific, fall to 2-4.

Though Western Washington led for almost the entire first half, the lead stayed under five for the most part and SSU went into the break down just one at 36-35.  SSU came out and grabbed the lead on a layup by Genny Anderson a minute into the second half, though their lead would be short lived.

WWU used a 6-0 run with about seven minutes remaining to take a 54-48 lead.  That's where teh lead would stay as the Vikings held on for the eight point win.

Mollie Stelmack had a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting.  She had five three-pointers and finished as the tournament's leading scorer and Most Valuable Player.  Claire Pallanch had 14 points for the Vikings as well, who shot .451 as a team.

Danae Wellander led the Seawolves with 14 points and eight rebounds.  Genny Anderson and Lauren Redfield also had ten points for SSU.
