BURNABY, BC- Sonoma State dropped their 2006 men's soccer opener to Simon Fraser University by a score of 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in Burnaby, British Columbia. SSU's defense held strong, but a late goal by the Clan's Michael Beck was the difference maker as the No. 17 Seawolves go to 0-1-0 on the season.
What looked like a high-powered Sonoma State offense was shut down by a very good Simon Fraser defense. The Clan limited the Seawolves to just ten shots and just one from the explosive duo of Nathan Medina and Andrew Bailey.
Sonoma goalkeeper Clark Rupp was solid, saving three shots, but it would be a Beck strike in the 74th minute that was the difference maker. Colin Streckman was credited with an assist on the goal for SFU (1-0-0).
The Seawolves will try to salvage the road trip on Saturday when they face Seattle University.
